This is a hybrid role with two days a week in the office in Manhattan.

Headquartered in New York with additional offices in Israel and Germany, the Claims Conference is a global, non-profit organization committed to providing a small measure of justice to Holocaust Survivors. Since our founding in 1951, the Claims Conference has secured more than $90 billion from the German government in indemnification for Survivors.

In 2023, the Claims Conference distributed approximately $625 million in direct compensation to over 260,000 survivors in 83 countries and allocated approximately $900 million in grants to over 300 social service agencies worldwide that provide vital services for Holocaust survivors, such as home care, food, and medicine. Our Research, Education, and Documentation (RED) funds contribute toward global efforts to educate the public and preserve the memory of the Holocaust through teacher training programs, exhibitions, and films such as Son of Saul, an Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Film. At the Claims Conference, we honor history while making history.

The Claims Conference has an opening for Program Manager for social welfare grants in the Allocations department. The ideal candidate has strong grants management, communication, people management and budget analysis experience. Some domestic and international travel is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervising Social Welfare staff and managing performance expectations including Program Managers, Program Officers, Senior Program Officers, Program Assistants, Senior Program Assistants, and Administrative Assistants;
  • Working with staff to arrange for task-oriented and content-coverage when staff plan to be out of office [vacation, site visits, etc.];
  • Overseeing application review process which includes developing recommendations for funding and assisting with materials for presentation to the Advisory Committees if applicable, Allocations Committee and Board of Directors;
  • Supervising day-to-day grants’ management process from applications to closing grants, including budget approvals and processing allocation letters;
  • Providing oversight of staff to ensure adherence to grant guidelines such as following deadlines and following proper policies, procedures and protocols implemented by the department;
  • Coordinating and compiling financial, programmatic and statistical reporting as needed;
  • Initiating policy and program enhancements by raising programmatic or procedural issues that arise with Deputy Director of Social Welfare Allocations, Director of Social Welfare Allocations, or Director of Allocations;
  • Conducting domestic and international site visits as needed;
  • Serving as ambassador representing Claims Conference mission in various settings and meetings;
  • Supporting ongoing enhancements of on-line reporting system, Diamond;
  • Supporting development and futures enhancements of grants management platform, Fluxx;
  • Reviewing and approving payments as needed;
  • Coordinating Program Officer, Audit Team and Compliance Manager follow up on audit findings as needed;
  • Providing overall support to the Deputy Director of Social Welfare Allocations, Director of Social Welfare Allocations; and Director of Allocations.

Qualifications:

  • Social welfare/ grant management background or comparable;
  • Master’s degree preferred;
  • Managerial experience;
  • Expertise in a nonprofit organization;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Effective oral and written communications and presentation skills.

Claims Conference offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our target salary range for Program Manager in the New York City market is $125,000-133,000. This salary range represents Claims Conference’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate’s exact location, experience in similar roles, and expertise related to the qualifications.
