Headquartered in New York with additional offices in Israel and Germany, the Claims Conference is a global, non-profit organization committed to providing a small measure of justice to Holocaust Survivors. Since our founding in 1951, the Claims Conference has secured more than $90 billion from the German government in indemnification for Survivors. For 2023, the Claims Conference will distribute approximately $625 million in direct compensation to over 260,000 survivors in 83 countries and allocate approximately $750 million in grants to over 300 social service agencies worldwide that provide vital services for Holocaust survivors, such as home care, food, and medicine. Our Research, Education, and Documentation (RED) funds contribute toward global efforts to educate the public and preserve the memory of the Holocaust through teacher training programs, exhibitions, and films such as Son of Saul, an Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Film. At the Claims Conference, we honor history while making history.

We are looking for a full-time Program Manager to join the Allocations department on the research, education, and documentation team in our New York office. The ideal candidate has strong grants management, communication, and budget analysis skills as well as people management experience.

Note: this is a hybrid position with a minimum of two days in the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervising RED staff and managing performance expectations including grants, project management, and administrative staff;
  • Overseeing and participating in the application review process which includes familiarity with the proposals, developing recommendations for funding and assisting with materials for presentation to board and funders;
  • Reviewing budgets and allocation and rejection letters;
  • Reviewing and approving payments as needed;
  • Supervising day-to-day grants’ management process from applications to closing grants, providing oversight of staff to ensure adherence to grant guidelines and policies;
  • Coordinating and compiling financial, programmatic and statistical reporting to the board and as needed;
  • Supporting program enhancements by raising programmatic, technological or procedural issues that arise with Deputy Director or Director of Allocations and proposing solutions;
  • Identify changes and updates required for forms, letters and the website and ensure they are accurate to reflect updated guidelines and policies;
  • Conducting site visits when necessary;
  • Serving as ambassador representing Claims Conference mission in various settings and meetings;
  • Supporting development and ongoing enhancements of on-line reporting system, Fluxx and Ruby;
  • Providing overall support to the Deputy Director of RED Allocations and Director of Allocations;
  • Direct, support and supervise Staff and consultants;
  • Collaborate with Claims Conference team members to support the overall mission of the department;
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve departmental goals;
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to enhance the effectiveness of the department's work.

Qualifications:

  • Grant management background or comparable, experience in research/education/documentation grants ideal;
  • Master’s degree preferred;
  • People management experience required, preferably in grant management;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Effective oral and written communications and presentation skills.
  • Experience with budget evaluation and review;
  • Demonstrated interest or knowledge in the field of Holocaust research, education, documentation and film.

The Claims Conference offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our target salary range for RED Program Manager in the New York City market is $125,000-$130,000. This salary range represents Claims Conference’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate’s exact location, experience in similar roles, and expertise related to the qualifications.
